Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a laser — an intense, pulsating beam of light — to remove unwanted hair. During laser hair removal, a laser beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle. The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, which inhibits future hair growth.
Laser hair removal works best for people who have light skin and dark hair. That's because the laser targets melanin in the hair and lighter hair has less melanin. Before you can get the treatment, you will have to let any tan fade from your skin in the area where you'll have hair removed. A tan makes it more likely you'll experience blistering or discolored skin as a side effect of the procedure. You should shave a day or two before the laser removal. (The cleaner the shave the better the treatment.) Do not wax or pluck the area for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment. It typically takes several laser hair removal treatments to provide an extended hair-free period. Periodic maintenance treatments may be needed as well.
